URBAN RESTART and our friend Kurt Cleary has participated in the competition “Shabby Shabby Apartments” in Munich and out of over 250 submitted projects our proposal has been picked by jury as a winning scheme together with other 22 brilliant proposals!
The competition invited collectives to invent apartments that everyone can afford. As living in a city center is becoming increasingly expensive competition challenges to reinvent idea of housing ground and soil and to build without using up the world’s resources. A low cost design, use-what-you-find and infrastructure built from as little resources as possible was a key aspects to focus on.
Our team came up with a lost “Yellow Submarine” concept placed on the shore of the river in English Gardens in Munich. Our proposal offered a modular design which re-purposes used bathtubs into the Hotel room. As well as using old washing machines doors for creating windows and pvc pipes for periscope which are available for free. The main wooden structure, joints and boarding are the only things to pay for.
